The Beauty of Expression

“In art, the hand can never execute anything higher than the heart can inspire- Ralph Waldo Emerson.
I couldn’t agree more with Ralph. I wonder what the world would be without the beauty of expression. This is what i believe is the essential definition of art~The liberty to express what lies deeply within your heart. Take this for instance. In the beginning, the world was without form and void and darkness was on the face of the deep. This opening statement in the Bible lets us know that in the beginning, the world was pretty messed up, to say the least! Nothing looked impressive and catchy to the eye. But all that changed when God took six days to express what lay deeply within His Heart. The universe became his canvas. And just like any painter would be intently engrossed on producing forth a well crafted piece of art, God’s mind focused on producing forth the image engraved deep within Himself. And when He was through, He couldn’t help SAY that all He had created was good. And indeed it is!!! Every bit of creation is a work of art..and dont we all agree that the universe and all her inhabitants is a masterpiece of divine beauty? The unfathomable patterns of stars in the sky, the glory of the setting sun, the yawn of a little child, the towering neck of a giraffe, the chirp of a bird upon a turf, the comfort of a hearty laugh 🙂 , the warmth of a mother’s touch, the wriggle of a worm on the earth’s crust…. See, the first artist to ever exist was God himself! The good news is that we all have been created in the image and likeness of Him…and that means that everyone is an artist by nature. You were born with something deeply entrenched within your heart, and its your life duty to express it…just as God did many years ago. Doesn’t the bible say we need to be imitators of God? Oh yes it does. Everyone is endowed with something uniquely beautiful on the inside that’s meant to make this world a better place. That’s why we dont need to get envious of others at what they do. You also have something that you can do that no one else can. One of my favorite quotes that i have come across so far is “You were born an original, dont die a cheap copy”
It is with this in mind that I feature one man who has taken the duty of expressing what God has wired on the inside of Him. Mutua Matheka is a photographer based in Kenya and quoting from his own words, he has been drawing and sketching since his mother placed crayons in his hands just at 3 years of age. His art has since then morphed from Drawing, Illustration, Graphic art, Architectural Visualization to Photography~his latest obsession. When he is not being artistic, he loves to get his adrenaline pounding by riding motorbikes, mountain climbing, and (if he got a chance) para troop and ski. He is a graduate Architect masquerading as an Interior designer who moonlights as a photographer. He studied architecture in Jomo Kenyatta University in Kenya and is currently employed as an Interior designer at Image 360 designs.
If Mutua’s photography is anything to go by, then, just like God who looked at His work and said it is good, I’ll echo the very same sentiments. His work has a unique ability to inspire and motivate the viewer in the most charming of ways! Mutua has a keen sense to detail, maturity and quality incorporated to his photography…and this is what makes him such a force to reckon with. Check out his blog today and see what Mutua has been upto~from photos showcasing the Kenyan landscape, to weddings, people, concerts and so much more. As for you Mutua, thank you for painting the colors of Kenya, one shot at a time!
