Tweli’s new single: #Leggo

Posted on January 22, 2014

Not too far back in time, I shared the same school with Tweli. He however flew to Japan to pursue an engineering degree after his freshman year at Jomo Kenyatta University. He somewhat left without notice..and I was curious to know about his new life in the far far east. So I conducted an online interview and he sure did give us more insights about his life in the land where Sumo wrestlers eat a stew called Chankonabe to fatten up (Are you anorexic? You know now where to go and what to order. Thank me later). You can read more on that interview here.

When I asked Tweli about his music career goals, he envisioned himself penetrating the underground Japan scene…as well as touring the country with a live band and a group of like minded artistes. Almost two years after I asked him that question, Tweli has done remarkably well, musically speaking, pretty much living up to his own word. He started with the basics…learning Japanese…then went on ahead to drop singles in the same language. He’s also directed a number of videos for other music enthusiasts like himself..and you can view his work here.

Tweli directed Gotze Island’s video titled ‘Way of Life’

In my view, his quest to have a strong footing in the Japanese culture is well underway, and I feel like he’s already a force to reckon with…if his new Japanese single Leggo is anything to go by. In his own words, Tweli says that the message in this new track is “Basically a song to spark a fire in the hearts of any young Japanese or even non Japanese foreigner to fuel the passion to do what they have been called to do, which is share God’s Love and message of grace with everyone and anyone...” And considering it was our Lord’s desire for His followers to take the Gospel to the ends of the earth, its so refreshing to see Tweli respond to that call..in the most creative of ways. From Kenya to Japan with lotsa love.  So without wasting any more of  your precious time, watch the new video and leave your comments! (In whatever language :). The full translation of the track is posted below. Cheers! 🙂
